Oana Avasilichioaei

Oana Avasilichioaei’s practice is concerned with textuality, polylingual poetics, the social and political forces/voices of the polis, and the intermediary spaces between word, sound and image, exploring the transgressions of these terrains through poetry, translation, performance, and sound work. Her five poetry collections include We, Beasts (2012, A. M. Klein Prize for Poetry) and Limbinal (2015), a hybrid work on notions of borders, while recent sound performances include MOUTHNOTES (2016) and OPERATOR (2018). Also a translator, her translation of Bertrand Laverdure’s Readopolis (2017) won the 2017 Governor General Literary Award. Current projects include Eight Track (upcoming 2019), a poetic/sonic investigation of multifold meanings of tracks/tracking, and the libretto for Marionette. Recent performance venues include the Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre (Vancouver); Theatre Junction Grand (Calgary), Apollo 111 Theatre (Bucharest). Based in Montreal, she was the 2018 Audain Visual Artist in Residence at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver (www.oanalab.com). (oana.avasi@gmail.com)
