Thomas Frick is an award-winning essayist, arts journalist, and fiction writer. He was the first recipient of the Charles Pick Fellowship from the University of East Anglia, a paid six-month residency that allowed him to complete his first novel, The Iron Boys, published in 2011. The Iron Boys, selected as a Holiday Pick by the Los Angeles Times, has been called “wise and humorous,” “gorgeous and astonishing,” “heartbreaking and inspiring, ” and “wonderfully sui generis.” Frick has published essays, interviews, translations, criticism, and miscellany in Kenyon Review, Chicago Review, Threepenny Review, Agni, Paris Review, Ploughshares, Art in America, the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, Art New England, and other places. He wrote texts for widely reviewed Semaphore Dancetheater for seven years, and has also published an anthology, The Sacred Theory of the Earth, on the metaphorical and spiritual aspects of landscape.
