For The Creative Minds Project at UCLA, she has held poetry therapy groups at Daniels Place and Step Up on Second, and will soon be doing so at Safe Place for Youth (SPY) and Venice Community Housing Corporation (VCHC.) She becomes a Certified Applied Poetry Facilitator through the International Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy (IFB/PT) in April, 2015, after completing a five-year training program supervised by Santa Barbara poet and therapist Perie Longo.
You can ask me about the history of poetry therapy and what it is, or how to join Writegirl, an L.A. based organization of professional women writers reaching out to teen girls who want to be writers. Please also ask about the girl’s detention center right here in Santa Clarita, so close to the campus of CALarts, and how you might be able to get involved with the girls being held there. Since moving to Los Angeles from New York over ten years ago, my circle of poets in Los Angeles includes many youth, homeless and mentally ill poets who are not yet considered professional poets and don’t interact much with the larger poetry circles, though they should. I am interested in connection.
