Shira Dentz

Shira Dentz is a poet and hybridist, and the author of black seeds on a white dish (Shearsman, 2011), and door of thins (CavanKerry Press, 2013), as well as a chapbook, Leaf Weather (Tilt Press/Shearsman). Her poetry, fiction, and nonfiction have appeared in many journals including in The American Poetry Review, The Iowa Review, and New American Writing, and have been featured online at The Academy of American Poets' Poem-a-Day Series, NPR, Poetry Daily, and Verse Daily. She is the recipient of an Academy of American Poets’ Prize, the Poetry Society of America's Lyric Poem and Cecil Hemley Memorial Awards, Electronic Poetry Review's Discovery Award, and Painted Bride Quarterly's Poetry Prize. A graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, she holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Utah. Shira is currently Drunken Boat's Reviews Editor, and is Lecturer in Creative Writing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. She is presenting a multi-media collaboration at ANDNOW 2015 that is part of a longer work-progress, titled Rose Secoming, that responds to the experience of female aging.
